Mary Louise Duncan was the daughter of Eva Bessie Pantier (1884-1968) and Claud Clarence Duncan (1882-1943).

She graduated from Burbank High School in 1930.

She was married to Fred Allison Hillard (1904-1987) on May 15, 1931 at the First Baptist Church, Glendale, Los Angeles County, California by the Rev. T. Witcolm Brougher.
Children:
• Gay Joan Pedrick Kagy (1935-__)
• Lee Allen Hillard (Lois) (1937-__) •

In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Glendale, Burbank, and Venice. In 1940, they moved into their newly constructed home in La Crescenta. She was involved in Community Theater, performing in 'Chicken Every Sunday' and 'Slice it Thin'.

They moved from La Crescenta to Sebastopol, California in 1950 and for several years, she worked almost daily to help construct their new "Post Adobe" home at 11264 Barnett Valley Road in Sebastopol.

Mary worked a number of years for Charles E. Myers, the owner of Art Point Studios, in Sebastopol. She also enjoyed China painting, leather work, gardening and gourmet cooking, for which she was highly respected by those who partook of her meals.

In 1981, they celebrated their fiftieth Wedding Anniversary with their life long friends, Lorraine and Paul Godding, at the Godding's daughter's cabin on the outskirts of Sequoia National Park.

After Fred died, she acquired a Ridgeback Boxer named 'Otto' that she dearly loved. When Otto would nap on the couch, she would cover him with an afghan, so he would not get cold, as according to her "he did not have much hair".
