Died Jan. 10, 2004

Lula Strickland, 95, of Dahlonega died Saturday at Chestatee Regional Hospital following an extended illness.

She was a native of Lumpkin County and had lived most of her life in Lumpkin and Dawson counties. She was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Lumpkin County, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late George W. and Mary Lingerfelt Fricks. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Strickland; daughter, Fannie Wood; three sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include her daughters, Lorene Carruth, Watkinsville, Mary Owens, Pickens, S.C., and Jessie Wood and Juanita Dockery, both of Dahlonega; son, A.J. "T Model" Strickland, Dahlonega; sister, Pauline Phillips, Dawsonville; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends all day beginning at noon Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Mill Creek Baptist Church, Lumpkin County. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Marcus Bolling and the Rev. Rodney Pilcher will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
