A retired Exxon Co. USA rigger and resident of Denham Springs, he died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, April 12, 1996, at Harvest Manor Nursing Home, Denham Springs. He was 82 and a native of Ponchatoula. He served 16 years as a street and police commissioner for the town of Walker. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday. Religious services at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Herman Holland, the Rev. Danny McMasters and the Rev. Mike Davis. Interment in Minton Cemetery, Walker. Survived by four daughters, Margie A. McClure, Baton Rouge, Stella A. Sutcliffe, Denham Springs, Janice A. Maxwell, Beechwood, J.J., and Nina Gail Achord, Ponchatoula; three sons, Carl "Sonny" J. Achord and Wilson "Red" Achord Jr., both of Livingston, and James "Jimmy" M. Achord, Walker; three half-brothers, Willie J., Curtis and Huey L. Achord; 20 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Zadie Harris Achord; parents, Henry A. and Jerrusia Brown Achord; six brothers, Lewis "Jado", Percy, Lawrence, Milton, Allen and J. W. "Bob" Achord; six sisters, Myrtle Achord Font, Emma Achord Mounts, Ira Murphey, Lottie Rinco, Mandie Achord and Brandy Martin; and a great-grandson, Rhett Matthew Castleberry. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael and Terry McClure, Aaron Raymond Achord, Tommy Achord and Charles Higginbotham II.
