Pioneer Citizen Is Death Victim

Mrs. Isabella J. Cheesman, 87 years old, died yesterday at her Redlands home, 135 Center street, where she had lived 36 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at the F. Arthur Cortner chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. J.M. Ross officiating in the absence of the Rev. Lewis Jacobson, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery, where her husband was buried three years ago.

She was a native of Bristol, N.Y. Born there Feb. 24, 1847. On Feb. 24, 1865, she was united in marriage with Robie M. Cheesman at Cannisteo, N.Y., moving the same year to Hannibal, Mo., where they remained for 21 years. In 1886 they went to Oskaloosa, Iowa, living there until April 1899, when they came to Redlands.

Of the six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Cheesman, five survive: Melvin D. of La Grange, Mo.; Eugene M., of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Luzerne B., of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. W.R. Baughman of Hollywood, and Mrs. H.A. Westerbrook of Redlands. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
