Kouts, Sept. 25 – Edwin Pumroy, highly revered Kouts resident, died Thursday evening at 9:33 o'clock at Porter Memorial hospital, where he had served as a board member for 10 years, the last six years as chairman. He was 66 years of age.
He succumbed after a lingering illness. In recent months he spent considerable time as a patient in Porter Memorial hospital and at St. Margaret's hospital in Hammond.
The decedent was a lifelong south county resident. He was a retired Pennsylvania railroad telegraph operator.
Born in Boon Grove, Nov. 30, 1886, the son of Neil P and Ortha (Brody) Pumroy, he moved to Kouts from Boone Grove more that 40 years ago.
He married March 9, 1909, to Frances Ada Alyea of Hebron, who died March 16, 1916. He then wed Anzo Nickerson of Kouts, Oct. 25, 1916, who succumbed June 12, 1952.
Surviving are one son, Robert Maurice Puroy, Appleton, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Maurice Dye, of Hebron; three grandchildren, Donald Puroy of Appleton; and Ronald and Gerald Dye of Hebron; and one brother, Aaron Puroy, Kouts. Another brother, George, of Kouts, died last March.
Services were held Sunday and burial will be in Cornell Cemetery.
