Kouts, Jan 27 - Services will be held Thursday for George Lewis Pumroy, 72, Kouts town board member and retired railroad telegrapher, who died late Monday morning in Porter Memorial hospital after an illness of two and a half weeks.
The decedent was born April 9, 1881, in Boone Grove, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Power Pumroy. He moved to Kouts from Boone Grove 42 years ago.
He was a telegraph operator for the Pennsylvania railroad from 1905 until seven years ago when he retired.
He married Mary Horner in Valparaiso, March 30, 1910. He was a member of the Kouts town board for six years, a member of the Kouts Christian church, Woodman lodge and Order of Railroad Telegraphers.
Surviving are his widow, Mary; three sons, Lawrence of Kingsford Heights, and Bernard and Charles, of Kouts; two brothers, Edwin Pumroy, of Kouts, Porter Memorial hospital board president, and Aaron, of Boone Grove; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, Howard, was killed in World War II.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday in the Kouts Christian church. The Rev. Gene Dye, pastor of Kouts Christian church, will officiate, and burial will be in Cornell cemetery, east of Hebron.
Friends may call at the Kosanke Funeral home after 7 pm Wednesday.
