ALLEGAN—Mrs. Florence Hoffman, the widow of Clare E. Hoffman, former congressman from the Fourth District, died Monday in the Allegan Health Center here. She was 93.
Mrs. Hoffman was born April 3, 1876, in a log cabin in Towbridge township. It was reported that Congressman Hoffman found the location of his wife's birth an invaluable asset to his political career.
Mr. Hoffman, a staunch Republican conservative and arch foe of the New Deal, was first elected to Congress in 1934. He served until 1962 when he retired from active politics. Mr. Hoffman died Nov. 3, 1967, at the age of 92.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman were married Nov. 22, 1899, in Otsego. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the First Congregational Church of Allegan and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are two sons, Leo and Carl, both Allegan attorneys; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, in the Gorden Funeral Home, Allegan. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
