Kathleen Orning, 87, died Tuesday afternoon, July 10, 2007, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, MN.
Kathleen was born November 15, 1919, in Bloomington, MN the daughter of Carl and Alice (Aarhus) Loken. She grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School.
On October 15, 1941, she married Leonard Orning in Hayfield, MN. They had three children, Lanny, Kurt, and Marlys.
After Leonard's return from WWII they owned and operated two businesses on Main Street in Hayfield, Orning's Meat Market and Len's Café. Following retirement in 1979, the couple moved to Hunt Lake near Faribault, and moved to Kasson in 1989. Kathleen was an active partner in the business and was noted for her baking and pastries. She enjoyed reading, watching sports on TV, needle work, gardening and her cat Maggie.
Kathleen is survived by two sons, Lanny (Judy) Orning, Plymouth, MN; Kurt (Cynthia) Orning, Hayfield, MN; one daughter, Marlys (Bob) Klemenhagen, Minnetonka, MN; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard, May 20, 1996; two sisters, Blanche Loken, Lola Chadwick; and granddaughter, Jody Orning.
The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Stephan Sandness officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
The family will be forever grateful to the neighbors and care givers who watched over "Grandma 400" so well and so long.
