OBITUARY, The Correctionville News, 14 May 1931, page 1: Mrs. Matilda Moon was born at Alhampton, Sommersetshire, England, February 20, 1847, and passed away at her home in Correctionville May 9, 1931, being 84 years, 2 months and 19 days of age. She came to America in July 1877 and lived in Cherokee County with her sister. On November 28, 1878, she was married at Marcus, Iowa, to Alney N. Moon. They began their home life four miles northeast of Correctionville where they lived until the spring of 1898. Then they moved to a farm one mile north of town. In the fall of the same year her husband preceded her in death. In 1906 she moved to town and has lived there until death came to call her beyond. To Mr. and Mrs. Moon were born six children: Mrs. E.G. Sellman, Sibley, Iowa, Mrs. F.L. Richardson of Lake Andes, South Dakota, Herbert L. Moon of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Albert and Minnie Markusen of this place, and Mrs. John Carpenter of Darlington, Wisconsin, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Sarah James of Brownsville, Oregon, Mrs. Will Dennick of Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Will Hobbs of Ellis, South Dakota, and five stepchildren. Grandma Moon had been failing for some time and finally became bedfast during the last three months. She was a member of the Christian Church, being baptized in England, and was loyal to her faith. She was a lover of flowers, gardens, and the out-of-doors. In her passing, another pioneer of the vicinity, one who had come here over 52 years ago, has passed to her reward. Services were held in the home at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, and in the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. J.A. Kettle and Rev. J.S. Deedrick in charge. Burial was made in the Correctionville Cemetery under direction of Wilson's Undertaking Parlors.
