Wallace was the fifth of ten children. On May 20, 1870, he was baptized by Rev. Edmund Belfour at Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran in Easton. In 1891 he married Nora Ulmer, and they had nine children: Florence, Harold, Helen, Douglas, Aloin, Ardith, Charles, Lillian, and Eleanor. He worked for the railroad for more than 25 years.
