AUCTIONEER IS TAKEN BY DEATH
Glenville, May 9 – Henry M. Grote, well-known auctioneer and otherwise prominent citizen, died today at his home, here, at 1:30 p.m., after a four months' illness of a complication of diseases, four weeks of which he was bedfast. He was in his 58th year.
Besides his wife, Lizzie Boehler Grote, he leaves the following children: Mrs. John Markle, Charles and Earl Grote, of Glenville; Mrs. Philip Heindel, of York, and Mrs. Paul Snyder, Glenville.
Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, besides the following sisters and brothers also survive: Mrs. Monroe Rohrbaugh, Codorus; Mrs. Cora Rohrbaugh, York; George Grote, Glenville; Harvey Grote, Brodbeck; Mrs. Paul Miller, Codorus; Mrs. Adam Kaltreider and Albert Grote, Brodbeck.
The deceased was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Stone Church. He belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose lodge and the Knights of Pythias, of Hanover, besides being a director in the Codorus and Manheim Insurance Company. For the past 35 years he has auctioneered sales in this section.
The funeral will be held on Thursday with brief services at his late home at 9:30 a.m. Concluding obsequies will be held in the Stone Church. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Kenneth S. Ehrhart, pastor of the Jefferson Lutheran charge, will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. Dr. Paul D. Yoder, pastor of the Jefferson Reformed charge. Funeral Directors G. W. Geiple and Son, of Glen Rock, have charge of arrangements.
