GROTE – On August 27, 1937, at 11 p.m., at his home in Manheim Township, Brodbeck RD 1, Charles A. Grote, husband of the late Saranda Sterner Grote, aged 82 years, 1 month, 4 days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services from his late home on Tuesday, August 31, at 9:30 a.m., with concluding services at the Stone Church. Interment in adjoining cemetery.
Body may be viewed at his late home from Sunday noon until time of funeral.

BRODBECK, August 28 – Charles A. Grote, justice of the peace of Manheim Township for 46 years, retired shoemaker and farmer, banker, and active churchman, died at 11 o'clock last night at his home near here. Death was caused by a heart condition. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Grote's term of justice of the peace expired last year. He was a director of the Hanover Trust Company since its organization 23 years ago. Always active in church work, he served 47 years as secretary of the Sunday school of Stone Church, where he held membership. From 1884 to 1888 he served as assessor of Codorus Township. Mr. Grote also belonged to the P. O. S. of A. and the I. O. O. F. Lodges at Jefferson.
Surviving the deceased are the following children: Mrs. Monroe H. Rohrbaugh, Codorus; Henry M. Grote, Glenville; Mrs. Cora A. Rohrbaugh, Spring Grove; George R. Grote, Glenville; Harvey C. Grote, Brodbeck; Mrs. Paul L. Miller, Codorus; Mrs. Adam Kaltreider, Brodbeck, and Albert E. Grote, at home; a brother, George W. Grote, Santa Rosa, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Leubecker, Sterner Run, Md., and Mrs. Alberdena Shaffer, Glenville.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, with brief services at the house at 9:30 a.m., and further services at the Stone Church. The Rev. Kenneth Ehrhart, pastor of the Stone Church Lutheran congregation, will officiate, assisted by his father, the Rev. W. H. Ehrhart, pastor emeritus, and the Rev. Dr. Paul D. Yoder, pastor of the Stone Church Reformed congregation. Interment will be in the cemetery adjoining the church. The body was removed to the funeral home of G. W. Geiple and Son to be prepared for burial.
