Mr. Ballweg was born January 19, 1861 in York, Penn.
He was the son of Fred C. and Barbara Ballweg.
Mr. Ballweg was one of the best known businessmen in Springfield and had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the central part of the state.
For thirty-one years, he operated a retail liquor establishment at 217 South Sixth street and prided himself on having one of the most elaborate and reputable places in his line in the state of Illinois. As a businessman, he was highly respected. Honorable in his business transactions, he had the confidence of those with whom he was affiliated.
As a friend, Mr. Ballweg was staunch and loyal, and the close friendships he made were lasting and marked with unselfishness on his part.
He was an indefatiguable worker, and for months previous to his death, although an ill man, he refused to listen to his physician's advice and actively took charge of his business affairs until a few days ago.
Exceeding fond of his home life, Mr. Ballweg made his home his hobby and spent all his time when unengaged in business with his family.
He came to Springfield in 1884, and on September 23 of that year married Theresa Busch of Litchfield who survives. To this union, one child was born, Carl F. Ballweg, who is well know in Springfield.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by two brothers, H.W. Ballweg of Springfield; and Joseph Ballweg of Abilene, Kansas. Also five sister, Mrs. Mary Rapenecker [sic] of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Louise McCollum and Mrs. Josephine Dodge of Abilene, Kansas, Anna Ballweg of St. Louis, and Sarah Ballweg of Springfield.
The funeral services were held at the residence and at the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
