Henry Friedrich Elting, son of Karl Elting and his wife, Christine, nee Schardt, was born Sept. 3, 1888 on a farm northwest of Friedensau. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Friedensau on Oct. 14, 1888, and was confirmed in the same church on Apr. 5, 1903, by the Rev. H. Schabacker.

He was united in marriage with Frieda Lueders Nov. 14, 1914, in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Deshler, by the Rev. Wm. Cholcher. This union was blessed with three daughters and five sons. He lived on the same farm until he retired in 1955. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Friedensau.

After a short illness, he was called to his eternal home on Sept. 2, 1965, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 29 days, lacking one day of being 77 years old. He was active both in school and church work, having held several offices.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1944; and five sisters, Emma, Caroline, Sophia, Christine and Frieda.

Those who mourn his passing are his children, Edna (Mrs. Wilke Hadden) of Palo Alto CA, Leona (Mrs. Henry Dunker) of Burbank CA, Vernon of Bruning, Orval of Davenport, Glenn of Edgar, Florence (Mrs. John Mette) of Sterling CO, Leonard of Hebron and Dwayne of Carleton; sons-in-law Wilke Hadden, Henry Dunker and John Mette; daughters-in-law, Margaret (Mrs. Vernon Elting), Esther (Mrs. Orval Elting), Esther (Mrs. Glenn Elting), Lorna (Mrs. Leonard Elting), and Beverly (Mrs. Dwayne Elting); a brother, Herman, of Carleton; two sisters, Anna (Mrs. Wm Gerberding) and Hulda (Mrs. Adolph Vortman), both of Deshler; 24 grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers were Wm. Mussmann, Ben Werner, Edward Vinkenburg, Alvin Neuhart, Walter Schardt and Fred Degner. Pallbearers were Darrell Degner, Walter Magnus, James Raess, Eugene Werner, Russell Hofts and Allen Schardt.

His mortal remains were laid to rest in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Friedensau, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5, the Rev. E.T. Baumann officiating. He based his words on Hosea 6:1. The congregation sang "Asleep In Jesus," and the male choir sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives."
