She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Springfield, the daughter of Dominic and Anna Maria Parasi Aiello. She married Dominic Peter Palazzolo in April 1946; he preceded her in death on April 3, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Grace Bologna and Josephine Aiello; and six brothers, Jasper, Vincent, Anthony, Phillip, Joseph and Samuel Aiello.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine (husband, Bryan) Martindale of Rochester; two sons, Dominic (wife, Loretta) Palazzolo and James Anthony (wife, Mary Ann) Palazzolo, both of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Mark (wife, Kate) Palazzolo, Nicholas (wife, Stephanie) Palazzolo, Gina Palazzolo (fiance Ryan Dietrich), Michelle (husband, Tim) Lyons, Christina (husband, Eric) Wells, Taylor and Sabrina Martindale; four great-grandchildren,
Meredith Lyons, Natalie Wells and Samantha and Adam Palazzolo; two sisters, Rose Palazzolo of Rockford and Frances (husband, Louis) Romano of Springfield; a brother, Jasper (wife, Marie) Aiello of Sherman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary lived in Rochester for 3 years and was formerly of Springfield, where she lived all of her life. She retired from Springfield School District 186 and was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. Agnes Church.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Agnes Church, with the Rev. Robert Jallas officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice, 800 East Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62769.
