"... Valentine Schaffer (b. 12-31-1765 d. 12-1-1852) was the seventh child of Martin, and my great ancestor. He was a Tailor by trade, often having to move to find work. In 1787 he married Catherine Staub (d. 1842). They had five sons and five daughters. In 1805, Valentine moved his family to Leck Kill. Then in 1837 at age 71, he and his wife moved to Ringgold Twp., Jefferson County. He bought a 50 acre farm and lived there till he died. ..."

About 1830, he moved to Bedford Co. Pa. with his family. He prospected in Bedford Co. and was unable to provide for his family. The authorities took the family back to Northumberland Co., where Mrs. Shaffer's father Michael Braun lived and they were taken care of there. Peter came back to his family at Leck Hill, but started out again to make his fortune. Magdalena saw his last on Sept. 10, 1837. he died Jan 13, 1850 in a poor house. [information provided by Wm.
