John Johnson Saathoff, son of John and Trinkje Saathoff, was born January 21, 1870, in Fiebing, Germany, and departed this life February 11, 1954, at the age of 84 years.

He came to America at the age of 18 and settled at Wahoo. He later moved to Valparaiso, Nebraska, where he was united in marriage to Mary Christine/Christina Juhl on November 15, 1895. They lived in Valparaiso until 1909 except for two years in Carnes, Iowa. John united with the Christian church in Valparaiso in 1901 and was a member until his death.

Six children were born to this union, three sons and three daughters. The family moved to a farm west of Miller in 1909, where they lived until 1925. John then retired and moved to Miller. On November 15, 1953, Mr. and Mrs. Saathoff observed their 58th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Edward and John "Ehden" of Miller, and Herbert of Midwest, Wyoming; three daughters, Mrs. Tillie Davis, Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Marshall Kearney, Midwest, Wyoming, and Mrs. Anna Baker of Miller; two brothers, Herbert and Harm of Germany; one sister, Mrs. Trinkje Hartman, Hawarden, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Christian Church. Elder Clifford Bragg was in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. Don Miller. Mrs. M. L. Eutsler and Mrs. Dale Parish were the singers, accompanied by Mrs. Elmer Ericson. Pallbearers were Jim Berkheimer, Lloyd Dockwieler, Dewey Holliday, J.R. Baker, Merle Clark, and Ross Ehresman. Burial was in the Miller Cemetery.
