Elsie Maxine Maas, 87, of Granite City, IL was born March 25, 1917, in Petrolia, IL, and passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.
Maxine was a member of the Granite City Women's Club, a wife, mother, and homemaker.
Maxine was preceeded in death by her husband, Paul. Paul A. C. and Maxine Maas had been married since November 2, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, while he was attending the National Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. Preceding her also, is Maxine's father was Charles A. Smith; her mother, Ava Dunlap; a daughter, Paula Kay Maas; two grandchildren, James Barhorst and Jason Paul McDonough; a sister, June Baldwin; and two brothers, Donald Carson Smith and Forest Ray Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly (George) Barr of Maryville, IL, and Karen (Gary) McDonough of Bethalto, IL; her grandchildren, Gwen Henderson of Merritt Island, FL, Linda Howerton of Maryville, IL, Jeremy Barr of Troy, IL, and Kary Lynn McDonough of OH; her great-grandchildren, Melanie and James Henderson of Merritt Island, FL, and Dusty Howerton of Maryville, IL, and James and Jaiden Barr of Troy, IL; and her sisters, Marge Wilharm of Elgin, IL, Bonnie Mills of Sumner, IL, Verna Mae "Susie" Lisman of Manito, IL, and Mary Vondola Howe of Lawrenceville, IL

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home, Granite City, IL, with the Rev. Kenneth DeWall officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Edwardsville, IL.
