"Clifford R. Althouse, 77, of 210 Stevens Ave., Mount Gretna, died Saturday at home following an illness of one year.
He was the husband of Arline G. Fryer Althouse. They observed their 47th anniversary Sept. 18.
Born in Denver, he was a son of the late Herman M. and Emma Enck Althouse.
A resident of Mount Gretna for 10 years, Althouse was formerly of Reamstown and Denver.
He had been a salesman for the former Miller-Hess Shoe Co., Akron, for 34 years, retiring in 1984.
Althouse was a member of Mt. Gretna United Methodist Church. He also had been church organist at St. John's United Church of Christ, Denver, for many years.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he graduated from Denver High School in 1937 and Lancaster Business College in 1948.
Althouse and his wife both were craft enthusiasts and antiques collectors. They took part in many local craft shows, including the Kutztown Folk Festival; Weaver's Antique Mall, Adamstown; and the Gretna Sampler, Mount Gretna.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Jay, husband of Sally Albrecht Althouse of Hilton Head, S.C.; two daughters, Jayne, wife of Steven Schwilk of Reamstown, and Susan, wife of Bryan Imhoss of Ephrata; a grandson; a stepgrandson; two sisters, Edna Albert of Bangor and Bernetha Messner of Ephrata Manor; and four brothers, Gilbert, Clyde, Harry and Kenneth, all of Denver."
