Jacob Laudig was born abt. 1810 in Pennsylvania. His parents are unknown. He married Catharine Angstadt abt. 1832 in that place. After the birth of their first child Jacob moved with his family and settled in Montgomery County, Ohio by the early 1830s likely traveling with his wife's family.

The incentives for this families migration was an individual choice but most were seeking land. Direct migration to a desired location did not always occur. People took time in migrating to the West pausing for a year or more in several places before reaching their final destination as it did with this family stopping for several years in Ohio.

Jacob and Catherine settled in Indiana after the birth of their second child between 1835-1839. After a short residence in Fortville the family moved to what is still known to many as the Laudig homestead south of Tipton.

Jacob Laudig was a pioneer furniture maker and he and his son, John, carried on that trade in connection with farming. Jacob died at the age of 68 years in Fall Creek, Hamilton, Indiana.
