Nancy Pollard Tate was the daughter of Simpson Tate and Lucy Dawson. She was born May 11, 1837 in Adair, Missouri, and died January 1919 in Grant County, Oklahoma. She married Jeremiah Huffman in Macon County, Missouri, on March 31, 1853.

In the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Census, Jeremiah and Nancy were residing in Macon County, Missouri. In the 1880 U.S. Census, Jeremiah and Nancy were residing in Falls Township, Sumner County, Kansas. It appears that Nancy, widowed, was listed in the 1900 Kansas Census in Caldwell, Sumner County, as Nancy "Hoffman". She was living as a boarder with apparently a daughter, Alberta, born in 1875, who was a servant. In the 1910 Census, Nancy was living with her son, Ed, in Grant County, Oklahoma.

Jeremiah and Nancy had twelve children: Lucy, Charles, James, John Yancy, Ed, Mary, George, Frances, Arminta, Alberta, Bertha and Lolah.
