James was the 3rd of 11 children born to Jeremiah and Nancy (Pollard Tate) Huffman. 27 March 1882 he married Eliza Jane Harris in Moulton, Iowa. They moved to Kansas shortly after as their 1st two children, William Albert (Feb 1883), and Fannie May (Nov 1885), were born there. Later they moved back to Iowa as my grandfather, Alva Louis, was born in Moulton on (3 Feb 1890). Their 4th child, Francis Fay (3 Sept 1894), was also born in Moulton. Eliza disappears from our records before 1905 as James marries Florence Mary Reed and they have 1 son, James William Jr. about 1907. According to the US Census, they are living in Des Moines in 1910. His occupation is listed as a black smith and coal miner. James was retired when he suffered a fatal heart attack in 1929. He was my great grandfather. His final resting place is in the Glendale Cemetery.
