Elizabeth is the second daughter born to Hiram Gates and Maryetta Rowe 11 January 1849 in Salt Lake City, Utah. By her first marriage to Robert William Taylor she had eight children. Her second marriage was to Thomas Harrison Silliman on 4 March 1880 in Ward-Ely, White Pine, Nevada. They became the parents of six children. She died at the age of 49 and is buried with Thomas Silliman in Ely Cemetery in Ely, Nevada.

Note: The headstone spelling of Sillyman is incorrect. In their marriage record and other historical records the spelling is Silliman.
