Maryetta Rowe was the second of four children born to Steven G. Rowe and Ruth Elizabeth Collins Rowe in Ithaca,Tompkins, New York. Her family is listed in Kirtland Ohio and moved to Bonaparte, Iowa where her father died in 1842. The family then moved to Nauvoo, Illinois where she married Hirum Gates in 1846 and came as a pioneer to the Salt Lake Valley with the Brigham Young Company in 1848, with two daughters. She later married Lysander Gee by whom she had nine children. Maryetta passed away at the age of 36 in Tooele, Utah having given birth to 11 children.
