Dorothy Belle Thurman Adams or Dot was born to Andrew Leeward Thurman and Blanche Palmer Thurman. She had two brothers and four sisters. They lived near Gladys, Virginia in a community named Hells Bend.

April 27, 1940, Dorothy married Floyd James Adams. Dorothy wore a blue suit for her wedding. In time, they had four children. Two boys and two girls. She was always a loving mother. She made all of the clothes for her two daughters. And also many times made clothes for their dolls. She loved to crochet and made many lovely afghans and doilies which she often gave as gifts. Some of the doilies were sold in the local store to supplement the family income.

When first married, Floyd and Dot lived in Altavista, Virginia. In 1950 they moved to Victoria, Virginia. Floyd worked for Victoria Supply Company. Dorothy was a homemaker.

In 1960 they moved to Blackstone, Virginia where they both worked at Velvet Textile Company. It was less than a block from their house on Second Street.

Dorothy was living in Blackstone, Virginia when she died of a massive heart attack. She is definitely loved and missed by all. A sweeter person never existed.
