Sarah Ann (Jackson) Swiers was the daughter of Jacob Jackson and Elizabeth Poling, natives of Maryland and residents of Perry County, Ohio. Sarah was one of eleven children: Margaret (Jackson) Miller, Samuel Jackson, Sarah Jackson (d.y.), Elizabeth (Jackson) Ricketts, Sophia (Jackson) Frazee, Joseph Jackson, Mary (Jackson) Frazee, Israel Jackson, Sarah Ann (Jackson) Swiers, Rachel Jackson (d.y.) and John Fletcher Jackson.

Sarah was raised on her parents farm in Perry County, Ohio until they moved, with many of their married children, to Van Buren County, Iowa in 1841. Sarah married William Swiers, the son of William Swiers, Sr, and Esther Steele, natives of England. Sarah and William were married in Van Buren County, Iowa August 31, 1844. They were the parents of Esther, Sarah, Emma and Joseph J Swiers raised on their farm in Van Buren County. Sarah was a resident of Van Buren County for nearly fifty years. She died in that county at the age of seventy-two.
