GRANDMA KELLS LAID TO REST MONDAY

Margaret Ann Allen, daughter of Charles E. and Eliza A. Allen was born in Putnam Co., Ind., near Greencastle Nov. 3rd 1849 and passed away at her home in Russell, Iowa, May 6, 1938, aged 88 years, 6 months and 3 days.

In the fall of 1854 she came to Lucas Co., Iowa with the family settling on a farm in Cedar Twp. near LaGrange.

On September 13, 1866 she was united in marriage to Ezra C. Kells and the home was established on a farm near Greenville, Iowa. In 1867 they moved to Woodson Co., Kansas living there for seven years, then returning to Iowa and buying a home in Washington Twp. Here they lived until 1901 when they gave up farming and moved to Russell, which has since been her home.

During their residence on the farm, she with the rest of her family, united with the Trinity Evangelical church.

Mrs. Kells was the mother of six children, one of whom died in infancy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on March 3rd, 1917, by two sons, Charles A. and Ezra Clyde Jr. and a daughter, Mrs. Ada Ann Dixon. She is survived by one son, Ernest O., one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Blue of Derby, Iowa, twenty three grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren, and three sisters; Mrs. Laura Stillwogon, Los Angeles, Calif, Mrs. Iva F. Sparks, Lincoln, Calif., and Mrs. Lillian Coffey of Santa Rosa, Calif.

During her long residence in this community Grandma Kells, as she was familiarly known, won herself a host of friends. She possesed a keen interest in the affairs of life and was ever anxious concerning the welfare of her family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. from the Russell M. E church, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals and assisted by Rev. Matthews. Interment was made in the Russell cemetery.
