Jean's only sibling her dear brother Paulie passed away on July 22nd, 1999.

Her brother was:

DENTAL HYGIENIST HONORED

Jean Brite (Lorentzen) Read was once recognized as being the Oldest Practicing Dental Hygienist in California and remained a member of the Southern California Dental Hygienist's Association until the day she died. Through hard work alone she would realize her lifelong dream of buying property and building a house in the mountains of Tehachapi, near Brite Valley - an area originally settled by her family.

SENIOR YEARS

Jean relocated to Washington to be near the daughter she raised.

About 2007
Jean relocated to Gardnerville, Nevada to be nearer her son, Richard Read.

Jean spent her latter months of life in 2009 enjoying visits and love from her youngest grandchild, Patricia " Pricia" Brite Read, whom named herself Pricia.

Pricia always brought her lovely "Grandma Jean" a beautiful flower. They giggled, tickled, making sure to always do their first job correctly:
FIRST JOB: Get your Wiggles and Giggles out!
They gleefully played silly games and made heart-shaped cutout sandwiches together.

DEATH

July 2nd, 2009
Jean Brite (nee Lorentzen) Murdy Read passed away at the Riverview Manor Home, Assisted Living. Sadly, none of her family were with her, as her death was sudden with no warning. Sadly too, is the error that the employees and owner of the facility mistakenly made in forgetting to notify family of Jean's passing. Her son, Richard Read, had to find out she had passed away when coming in for a bi-weekly visit to the home.

Our mother, Grandmother, and dear friend to so many, was called home to the warm embrace of the Lord in the early morning hours of July 2nd, 2009. She passed away peacefully at Riverview Manor in Gardnerville, Nevada, at the age of 86.

Jean was our Angel here on Earth and a Joy and inspiration to all that knew her, a devout Christian and Republican (in that order).

Jean Brite Read was a glowing example of what it means to live a decent and honorable life.

She was preceded in death by her 2 husbands; Edward Barron Murdy and Mahlon Milton Read, and her beloved brother Paul "Paulie" Lorentzen.

She is survived by 4 sons; Ed Murdy of Independence, California, Jim Murdy (Deanna) of Walnut Creek, California, Richard Read of Minden, Nevada, and Jon Read of NYC. She also has a stepdaughter; Mary (Read) Johnson of Winlock, Washington and 4 grandchildren; Kristina Jean & Michael Murdy, Heather Boriss, and Patricia Brite Read.

A celebration of life was held on July 5th, 2009 at High Sierra Fellowship in Gardnerville, Nevada. Her body will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield, California. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10th, 2009. All are welcome to attend. Donations in her name may be made to the Tehachapi Heritage League or your favorite charity.

Thursday July 9th, 2009
Jean's Obituary was published in the Bakersfield Californian Newspaper on Thursday July 9th, 2009.

BURIAL

Friday July 10th, 2009
Jean Brite Read was laid to rest in her Brite Family Plot. Her son, Pastor Ed Murdy was the Officiator. All of her sons, a niece, her granddaughter, Paricia Brite Read, her mother, Kathryn Moore, and more family and friends gathered to honor Jean and her Life and pay respects.
This sadly was to be the last time that all of her sons gathered together at once.

However, her granddaughter Patricia Brite Read met and was given her first puppy at Jean's funeral. Near the end of the services, a tiny barely weaned, stray puppy wandered into the middle of the gathering. The puppy was a girl that the family named, Mollie.
