'The Minneola Record": Mrs. Joseph Inlow Dies Thursday, Early Pioneer Citizen Dies at The Home of Her Daughter Last Thursday After Long Illness
The entire community was gravely shocked and saddened when they learned of the death of Mrs. Joseph Inlow, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Schul, Thursday, April 5.
Phurby, daughter of Susan and Z.T. Cornell was born February 25, 1867 in Macon county, Illinois and departed this life at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 10 days.
At the age of 13 years, she moved with her parents to Clarke county, Iowa, where she was married to Joseph Inlow on October 13, 1887. Following their marriage, they immediately came west by covered wagon and settled 8 miles south of Minneola in Appleton township, where they started their pioneer life. To this union were born 3 children, Alva, Walter and Bertha. Her husband and eldest son, Alva preceded her in death. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Minneola, where she lived for 14 years. She had been in failing health for several years. She was bedfast since last May. She was taken to the St. Anthony hospital for 6 weeks and then she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Schul, where she had every care that loving hands could give her until her death. She was united with the Christian church in Minneola and she had endeavored to live a consistent Christian life. Studying her Bible and urging her family to follow her faith. She was a faithful wife and loving mother.
She leaves to mourn her parting, two children, Bertha Schul of this city and Walter, living on the original homestead; four sisters, Mrs. Nina Riley of Pueblo, Colorado; Mrs. Ella Cavanaugh of Dalhart, Texas; Mrs. Eliza Spridgen of Woodburn, Iowa; two brothers, Rufus Cornell, Nyssa, Oregon and Theodore Cornell of Woodburn, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment was in the family lot in the Minneola cemetery with the Thoman Mortuary of Fowler in charge.
