He was survived by sons, Allen E. Miles and Clayton A. Hasty, and daughters, Arlan H. Riggins and Sandra H. Daughtry; and by grandchildren, Clayton A. Hasty, Jr., Christopher M. Hasty, Amanda M. Hasty, David E. Riggins, Rebekah L. Daughtry and P. Scott Daughtry.
James donated his body to medical science, and after his death his ashes were scattered in The Rose Garden of the University of South Carolina Medical Center.
