MILLER - Paul O. Miller of RR Route, Box 36, Cottage Grove, passed away at a Eugene hospital October 12, 1966. He was born December 2, 1903 in Montana. He was married to Alda Brasfield May 4, 1927 in Salem, Oregon and moved to Cottage Grove in 1935, where he operated the Rex Café for 10 years and was the owner of Jerry Del Motel and homes. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Cottage Grove Riding Club and the Eugene Mineral Club. He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Delbert of Glendale, California, Jerry of Eugene; 3 brothers, Ralph of Eugene, Herbert of Gillespie Corners, Eugene and Lester of Sacramento, 2 sisters, Rena Humphrey of Eugene and Irma DeLaMar of Bakersfield, California; 4 granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15 at 2 p.m. in the SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, COTTAGE Grove, with vault interment at West Lawn Memorial Park, Eugene. ~~~

NOTE: As a child, he was called by his middle name, "Orian," but used "Paul" later in his life.

Paul and Alda Miller operated a small motel and had a few rental cottages just off the old highway south of Cottage Grove. It was named the Jerry Del Motel after their sons, Paul Delbert "Del" Miller and Gerald William "Jerry" Miller.

Although his obituary indicates Paul Orian Miller was born in Montana, all census records indicate his state of birth was actually North Dakota. His parents farmed in Illinois and later in North Dakota.

By 1930, the Miller family had moved to Eugene where Hal Miller was a building contractor.
