In 1955, her articles in the Alice Daily Echo put an end to decades of corruption and terrorism in Duval County, Texas. For nearly 40 years, the Parr family was in charge of the Duval County political machine. She covered a challenging series of court hearings, spending countless hours pouring through papers and court documents, attending trials, and exploring Parr's political activities at great personal risk over a two-year period. The Associated Press published her articles, drawing national attention to the corruption. She left journalism after receiving the Pulitzer Prize. Brown was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame (1986) and the Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame (2016).
