Barbara was the eldest of 11 children of George Jacob Ruebelmann, IV, and Anna Maria Henke. Following the death of her mother, Christina's father and his 8 surviving children immigrated to Iowa. They eventually settled in St Louis, MO. Barbara, however, had met fellow immigrant, Jacob Kuebler, and stayed in Iowa.
