In 1924, he was united in mariage to Ethel Taylor. This marriage was blessed with eight children.

George farmed in the Elwood, Eustis, and Loomis areas, retiring in Kearney in 1964. In his retirement he worked at Harmon park where he was in charge of the flower beds. There were always lots of complimentary remarks for these flowers, and it brought great satisfaction to him.

He was devoted to his family and the cooperation he gave was reaspected by all who worked with him. His lingering illness caused him much suffering and distress but was endured by him with great patience. His sense of humor was an uplift to all. He was a kind, thoughful, loving husband and father.

Twelve years ago, he joined the First United Methodist church and attended as long as his health permitted.

A MAN WHO LOVES THE SOIL

I think a man who loves the soil.
Who bends above the fertile earth,
And plants the seed with calloused
hands
Must be a gentle man of worth,
A man who cherished the sod
Must surely be a friend of God!

I think a man who loves the soil;
Who nurtures every growing thing,
And watches with expectancy
For nauture's fruitful harvesting,
Who oft has plowed the lands he's trod,
Must be a partner of God.

I think a man who loves the soil
Finds happiness in rich supply;
Though toil he must to earn his bread
He reaps much more than wheat and rye
For with each little grain or pod
He cultivates a faith in God.
