He was born on July 5, 1925, in Sherman, N.Y., to Jay and Deborah (Bliss) Alday.
He had served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars in Mayville, N.Y., where he was well known.
He ran the family farm at Little America, he then purchased a milk truck and had a milk hauling route.
He then worked for the Town of Sherman Highway Department, was a constable, worked at Sherman Central School, and was a member and exempt member of the Stanley Hose Co. Fire Department. After this, he had his own dump truck and backhoe service. And he especially loved cutting firewood.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Ann Alday, Sherman, N.Y.; sons: Maury (wife, Mary Gale) Alday and John (wife, Kathy) Alday, both of Sherman; grandchildren: Tyler Alday, Savannah Alday, Tawny Walters, Dawn McGinnett, Lindsey and Nicholas Alday; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Alday; and sister, Carol Bishop.
