On 11/15/1838, James married Ann Amos in Rush County, Indiana. His father died three days later on 11/18/1838. There were no children from this marriage, and it is not apparent how the marriage ended...death of Ann...or divorce.
Later records show that James next married Catherine D. Giles on 10/4/1840 in Rush County, Indiana. They had two children, Mary E. Thompson, b. abt.1842 and George W. Thompson, b. abt.1845.
In the summer of 1845, an epidemic of typhoid fever swept over Howard County and surrounding area. One of it's early victims was James Thompson. His body was the second interred in the Twin Springs Cemetery.
