John Thompson was born 3 Apr 1822 in Monroe County, VA(now WV) and died 21 Jul 1881 in Missouri. In 1823 when he was one year old, John moved with his family from Virginia to Rush County, Indiana. On 26 Jan 1847 John married Ann Jones in Shelby County, IN. They were in Shelby Co., IN in 1850 and 1860 census records. Their son, Thomas, age 1, died there. They moved to Illinois in 1861 and their son, Alfred, age 3, died in 1863. In 1864 two of their sons, James, age 16, and William, age 15, joined the Union Army in IL. The 1870 census showed them living in Saline County, KS where John was a farmer and then in the 1880 census record John and Ann were living in Greene Co., MO. On 21 Jul 1881 John died at age 59 in MO according to the Culver Family History booklet (Ottawa Co., KS). A search of Salina, KS newspapers for 1881 for John Thompson showed an announcement of his death. It stated he died in Corsicana, Barry County, MO, NOT where he was in the 1880 census. Therefore it is assumed (not confirmed) that he was buried in the Corsicana Cemetery. Written by Jon Thompson, his gg grandson.
