A.R. Adams, Obituary.

Allen Rice Adams was born in Park[e] County, Indiana, on September 30, 1858, and departed this life on October 1st, 1923.

He united with the Presbyterian Church at Carlyle, Kan., at about the age of fourteen.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, one brother and four sisters: Mrs. D.F. Gilkerson and Mrs. S.T. Ryker of Iola, Mrs. Geo. J. Snell of Eldorado Springs, Mo, and Mrs. E. M. Cannon of Las Vegas, N.M. and Charles E. Adams of Benson, Minn.

“Rice” Adams, as he was known by a wide circle of personal friends, was a man of the highest integrity and of fine spirit, and his death will be sincerely mourned. As a boy and a young man he was popular in the Carlyle neighborhood where he grew up, and as a man he held the complete respect of all who knew him. He was for a number of years assistant assessor for Iola city and always performed the duties of that office with fidelity and zeal. Into whatever relation of life he entered he always fulfilled in letter and spirit any contract he made.

The funeral was held this afternoon at the Sleeper chapel which was filled to capacity by sympathizing friends. The service was conducted by Dr. H.G. Mathis, of the Presbyterian church, who preached an appropriate and appealing sermon upon the theme: “Union With Christ.”

The obsequies were concluded by the reading of the burial ritual of the I.O.O.F. of which Mr. Adams was a member, and interment was made in the old cemetery.
