His son, Lloyd Daniel Bergsgaard, was born on 4 Jan 1913 and died on 25 Aug 1967, according to information supplied to this memorial supervisor. He was last living in AZ but no memorial for him has been found.
Otto was born in Norway to Lars and Agnetta Bergsgaard. The family came to America in 1885 and they made their home for 4 years in Spring Grove, MN. In 1889, his father, Lars, filed on a homestead in the Viking, ND community and shortly thereafter the family joined him to make a new home on the prairie. Otto's mother died when he was about six years old so he was raised by his older sisters on their farm in Benson County near Maddock. He was confirmed in the Viking Lutheran Church in 1899 in the Norwegian language.
Otto worked his father's farm until he was married to Petronella Ovidia Langlie on 13 Aug 1911 in the Viking Church. Shortly afterwards they moved to Heimdal, ND where he took his 2 horses and began a dray business and then finally opened a butcher shop. About 1925 they moved to Manfred, ND where he managed a grain elevator until the depression hit and all grain elevators were closed. From there the family moved to Barnesville, MN seeking employment and after 10 months they moved to Nome, ND where he had a butcher shop. This was in 1935 and the depression was still being felt and the shop closed. Because of his wife's illness they moved to Valley City, ND to be closer to a hospital. They resided here until 1943. After that they moved to Portland, OR where he worked in the shipyards.
They built a home there and lived there until his sudden death of a heart attack in Feb 1962.
He was brought back to the Viking Church and buried in the church cemetery in block 3 plot 82.
