Sven Peter Carlson was born in Snostorp, Sweden (near the town of Halmstad) 1/5/1865, one of 5 children of Carl Andersson and Anna Johanna Eliasson. His siblings were Emma Christina, Anton Bernardt, John, and Ida. As was the custom at the time, he and his siblings took the last name "Carlsson" (Carlson in the U.S.) from their father's 1st name. He and his siblings grew up in Snostorp where they went to the Lutheran Church and attended school through about the 8th grade. His father died in 1887. In March of 1888 Sven and two of his siblings, Emma and Anton, immigrated to the U.S. Sven may have lived briefly in Hoopeston, Illinois where Anna and Anton settled, but before the end of 1888 he moved to Loomis, Nebraska where he lived the rest of his life. He never married but was close to his cousin, Anna (Anderson) Hendrickson (FaG memorial #41049502) and her family who had also immigrated from Snostorp to Loomis. Anna was his 1st cousin. She was married to August "Otto" Hendrickson and had two children: Aleda and Reuben Hendrickson.
