Frances Julia Batman Davis, 97, of Elkton, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Journey's Crossing Assisted Living in Elkton.

Mrs. Davis was born May 19, 1912, in the Rinacas Corner area of Page County and was a daughter of the late Virgil C. and Nora Propst Batman. Frances had previously been employed by the Shenandoah Knitting Mill and also by Blue Bell. Most recently Mrs. Davis had worked as a nurse's aide at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

On Sept. 26, 1927, she married Edward I. Davis, who preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1986. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by a son, Isaac Davis; two grandsons, Dale W. Ladd and Gary W. Ladd; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernice E. Hutton of Elkton and Anne D. Oscar of McGaheysville; a son, John Davis of Elkton; two brothers, Walter Batman and David Batman; three sisters, Virginia McCurry, Mary Fields and Emma Rankin; 10 grandchildren, Tommy Davis, William Davis, Susan Davis, John E. Davis, Robert S. Davis, Mark Ladd, Anna Marie Rossi, Max Hutton Jr., Mikel Hutton and Patricia Shifflett; 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, with the Rev. L.J. "Dickie" Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
