Oscar Kendall was a notable figure in Portland during the 1890s and early 1900s. He was the star witness in a sensational murder trial in the 1890s that involved a prominent attorney, notorious crimpers and the owner of an opium den. Kendall became Deputy Sheriff of Multnomah County and then personal bodyguard and investigator for US Attorney Francis Heney. Kendall protected Heney during the Oregon Land Fraud Trials and the San Francisco Graft trials.
