distinguish himself from Clement's son John who was born 12 March 1778. He did not, however, use the title 2nd in a deed found in the Cumberland County Deeds, Book 130, page 498, which he signed 17 November 1832 so Esther Skolfield Schmidt concludes that his older cousin John died before that date. In that deed he mortgaged to his son-in-law, George Chase half of the farm on Birch Island on which "the
said John Skolfield now lives." This one-half interest in the farm may have been inherited by John's wife Bethiah from her father with her brother James receiving the other half interest. In 1824, however, John and Bethiah were living at Mere Point according to the Baptist Church records, and she was described as wife of John Skolfield of Mere Point when she joined the church. Bethiah Sprague Merryman was born 14 August 1782; died 22 June 1843 and was buried on Chebeague Island.
The children of John Orr-3 Skolfield and Bethiah Sprague Merryman were:
1. Caroline-4 Skolfield was born 25 April 1811; married, first, George Chase; married, second, Ebenezer Hill,
2. Susan L. Skolfield was born 7 June 1813; died 7 October 1828.
3. Bethiah Sprague Skolfield, a twin to Mary, was born 22 August 1815; married, first, Hugh Scott; married, second, John Millett Hunt.
4. Mary W. Skolfield, a twin to Bethiah, was born 22 August 1815; married, first, Joseph
Webber; married, second, Levi H. Dakin.
