Sarah was the daughter of Martha Underhill and James M. Ingle.

Granddaughter of Sarah Saville Sigler and John Underhill; and of Samuel Ingle and Margaret Crowder.

Sarah was the second or third wife of Thomas Willard Abell Sr.. She was the mother of 9 children. Gertrude May Rose-Ingle and unknown Sinclair baby (both children from previous relationships), Jesse Abell, Margaret L. Abell, Alvin Thomas Abell, Lola Pearl Abell, Gladys Lela Abell, Permelia Ella Abell and Herman Charles Abell.

Sarah died in childbirth. Her last baby was raised by a member of her Ingle family and he went by the name of Charles Herman Edward Abelle. At the time the baby was born, he was given the name of Thomas. Charles' birth certificate incorrectly states 6 children born and 6 living. Charles was Sarah's ninth child.

While the spelling of Able is on her headstone and her death certificate, the actual spelling of her last name was Abell, which is the spelling used by her husband Thomas and all her children following her death. Family states Sarah did not get along with other Abell family members and did not want to associate with the spelling of the Abell name.

Died in rural Birdseye, on her farm three miles south of town.
Cause of death: uterine hemorrhaging after childbirth.
Informant on death certificate: Thomas Abell, Birdseye, Indiana.
Buried on April 16, 1909
---

Sarah Ingle had a relationship with Albert "Bert" Rose of Dubois County which resulted in the birth of Gertrude Rose-Ingle. No bastardy suit was found in Dubois County, Indiana. They were not married.

Sarah Ingle also had an intimate relationship with William Sinclair of Crawford County which resulted in a pregnancy and the birth of a baby boy on March 30, 1894. Sarah filed a bastardy suit in Patoka Township, Crawford County, Indiana while she was pregnant, and once the baby was born, a warrant was issued for William's arrest. William was married to Sarah's cousin, Martha Sigler, at that time. William and Martha left Crawford County for Pike County, Gibson County and Greene County, Indiana. The warrant was never served, but Sarah persistently and energetically pursued the bastardy case until the fall term of 1898. The case was dropped for want of prosecution. William and Martha moved back to Crawford County by 1900, Sarah was in Butler County, Kentucky on the 1900 census, and the Sinclair baby has never been found.
