In July of 1931, Kenneth went to a summer camp run by the Kingsland Memorial Presbyterian Church in Leasburg in Crawford County, Missouri. He went there early with the church pastor and 2 companions to prepare the camp for its opening on 12 Jul 1938.
Shortly after noon on 11 Jul 1938, Kenneth and the 2 companions went out in a boat in an unfamiliar part of the Meramec River. Kenneth, who was described as being a fairly good swimmer, jumped from the boat into the water. He went down and 1 of his companions grabbed him in an effort to pull him up, but soon lost his grip. Kenneth went down a second time and, tragically, never resurfaced.
His body was not recovered until early on the night of 12 Jul 1931. At the time of his death, he was 21 years, 2 months and 12 days old.
Kenneth was survived by his mother and father; an older brother, Ralph Rogers of California, and a younger brother, Everett Rogers; and 2 sisters, Helen Reese of Warrenton, Missouri, and Naomi Dieckhaus of St. Louis, Missouri. He never married.
