In 1922 he married Jessie Martin and they lived in Indianapolis until 1928, when they returned to Milltown, IN.
He drove a school bus and sold Chevrolet cars for several years. In 1937 he became a Frigidaire dealer and continued in that business until 1954 when he enlarged his building, and began selling furniture and appliances under the name "D.D. Barksdale Furniture and Appliances".
David loved horses and always had one or more. He was 99 years old when he died in Milltown.
