Funeral services on Tuesday, March 1, at 1 o'clock precisely. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Mrs. Helen Buist was born Helen M. Stevens, the daughter of the late Russell Stevens and Katherine Stevens.
Helen died at age 67 of cancer, sarcoma in the thigh. She leaves behind two daughters,
Miss Emma L Chambers and
Helen Jane Buist and one step-son
Robert Buist, Jr also, one sister,
Louisa A. Stevens
all of the Robert Buist home, Rosedale; and one brother,
Charles Henry Stevens
of Salem, Missouri.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and step-son
John Menzies Buist
who died of Typhoid Fever in 1868.
Helen Stevens first married Alexander Chambers 1 June 1834 at Philadelphia. They had one known daughter, Emma. It is not yet known if Alexander Chambers died or if they were divorced. Mrs. Helen M. Chambers then became the third wife of the widowed horticulturist and seedman, Robert Buist 1 September 1842 also at Philadelphia. They had two children.
Their little boy,
Robert Buist died in 1849 of measles. Their daughter, Helen Jane Buist later became Mrs. George Redford after both of her parents had died.
Helen’s widowed mother, Katherine Stevens, sister Louisa, and her daughters Emma and Helen all lived with the family at Rosedale and helped out at the nursery. Her step-son Robert Buist Jr. took over the business when his father retired. Louisa and Emma both died single.
