Mary Zeek, the daughter of James Dejmal and Frances Strasel Ddjmal, was born on April 28, 1902 at Dubois, NE. She passed away on June 20, 1996 at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, NE, at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 22 days.

Mary was the seventh of thirteen children born to her parents. She was married to John W. Zeek on Aug. 9, 1920. She lived on the farm for nearly half of her life. She was a member of the V.F.W., past president and secretary of American Legion Auxiliary, past president, secretary and guard of the World War I Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, all of Hebron, past secretary of AARP, and volunteering in Thayer Co. Hospital helping with immunization shots.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Andy Zeek, grandson, Paul Smith, son-in-law, Henry J. Smith, daughter-in-law, Inez Zeek, six brothers: Jerry, Amos, Jim, Gus, Joe and Frances Dejmal, and two sisters, Albina Brown and Emma Carlson.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Smith, Shelton, WA; seven grandchildren: Darlene Stout & her husband Daniel, Kent, WA, Marilyn Joy Miller and her husband Richard, Duvall, WA, David Zeek & his wife Kathy of Dallas, TX, Gary Zeek & his wife Tonda, Indianapolis, IN, Steven Zeek, Omaha, Janet Zeek, Denver, and Tom Zeek; six great-grandchildren: Tracy Stout and her husband Kevin, Susan Hofstetter & her husband Bob, Bellingham, WA, Sheril Richards & her husband Rob, Mill Creek, WA, Andrea & Jonathan Zeek, Indianapolis, IN, and Stacia Hardyway, Denver; three great-great-grandchildren: Kellie Hofstetter, Bellingham, WA, Hayley & Riley Richards, Mill Creek, WA; five sisters-in-law, Ruth & Lillian Dejmal, Narka, KS, Hazel Dejmal, Belleville, KS, Lois Dejmal, Bremerton, WA, and Naomi Dejmal, Ontario, OR, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 24, 1996, at 11:00 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, Hebron, with Pastor Don Strudley officiating. Pallbearers were: David Zeek, Gary Zeek, Jerry Fink, Don Dejmal, Chris Dejmal, and Jim Dejmal. Interment was in the Chester City Cemetery, Chester, NE. Memorials may be given to the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes, Hebron, NE.
