Enlisted in the U.S. Army on 4 January 1948. Served in Korea, Japan, Fort Lee, VA., Panama Canal Zone, Fort Leavenworth, KS, Vietnam and Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN. Retired from active military duty on 31 August 1972.
Married Patricia M. Swift on 21 May 1955. Father of Sharon, Kathleen, Patrick, Karen, Robert, Rose Mari, Kevin and Michael.
Was a past Grand Knight of the Balboa, Panama Canal Zone chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Served as lay reader and lay eucharistic minister with the Catholic military parish at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Served as a professional food service director at Fairbanks Hospital, Indianapolis. Was honored by the General of the Army, Omar N. Bradley on 16 Mar 1980 for his personal integrity and outstanding service to the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, the Fort Benjamin Harrison and Indianapolis communities.
He graduated from the University of Indiana on 11 May 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.
