Henry R. Mathias died at his home along the Manchester state road, Tuesday, June 23, 1936. Death followed an illness of seven months. He was a son of the late Joseph and Eliza Mathias and was aged 69 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Clara Lippy Mathias and the following children: Horatio J., Mrs. George L. Leese, Mrs. John H Martin, Harry J., Mrs. George C. Brown, Mrs. Walter Bell and Mrs. John Schweigart; also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jane Berwager, Mrs. Sue Koontz, Theodore J. Mathias, Mrs. Samuel Hull, Wesley Mathias, Mrs. David N. Leister, Mrs. Roger Ander and Mrs. Samuel Helm. The deceased was a life long member of St. John's (Leister) Lutheran Church and served as superintendent of the Sunday School for many years.
The funeral services were held this afternoon, meeting at the late residence at 1:30 o'clock with further services conducted in St. John's (Leister) Lutheran Church. The pastor, the Rev. J. E. MacDonald, officiated. Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church. The pallbearers were Charles Reed, Noah Hosfeld, Joseph Zepp, William Tawney, Christian Wike and Jesse Null. F. A. Sharrer and Son, funeral directors.
